Meta Job Boards – an efficient way to job search

June 4, 2010 1 comment

The term “Meta” is a prefix used to indicate a concept which is an abstraction from another concept, used to complete or add to the latter. Therefore a “Meta” Job Board is actually a Search Engine designed to index and extract job postings from other job boards and sources to create its own collection of job listings.

In this post I’ll cover three of the leading Meta job boards that I recommend you integrate into your daily job search routine.

1.) Indeed was launched in November 2004 as a “search engine for jobs – with a radically different approach to job search.”

Indeed gives job seekers access to millions of employment opportunities. The website offers jobsearch functionality as a vertical search site by aggregating job listings from thousands of websites including major job boards, newspapers, associations and company career pages. Job-seekers can search for job listings by: what (title), where (location), keywords, and company name. Indeed was co-founded by Paul Forster and Rony Kahan.  The company is privately held with investment from The New York Times Company, Allen & Company and Union Square Ventures. Indeed is headquartered in the Greater New York City area.

2.) SimplyHired was founded in 2003 as a job search engine. With more than five million job listings worldwide, Simply Hired ( is the world’s largest job search engine and recruitment advertising network. The company powers jobs on over 5,000 network partner sites such as LinkedIn, Plaxo, CNNMoney, BusinessWeek and The Washington Post. It operates global sites in 15 countries and eight languages on five continents. Users can search for jobs by keyword and/or location along with various special job search filters. Results are sorted by relevance or date but can be refined. Users can then create job email alerts so that they are notified of new jobs that match their search. Job Seekers who take the time to create an account also have the ability to save searches and jobs, rate jobs, and save notes about jobs. Simply Hired was founded by Peter Weck and Gautam Godhwani. The company is privately held with investment from IDG Ventures SF, News Corporation’s Fox Interactive Media, Foundation Capital, Garage Technology Ventures and individual investors. Simply Hired is based in Mountain View, California.

3.) JUJU is a next generation job search site, built on the foundations of one of the first job search engines on the web,, which launched in 1998. The site was re-launched under the Juju brand in January 2006 with new technology and the aim of making it dramatically easier for job seekers to find a comprehensive set of relevant jobs. JUJU is based in New York.
